The Eat Food NOT Money Cookbook

Chili cheese balls

With less than a month before the Superbowl, I thought I’d start posting some good party recipes. These are excellent. This recipe feeds 6 but it can be doubled or tripled depending on your party size.

What you’ll need:

  • 1/2 lb sharp cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1/2 c margarine, softened
  • 1 c flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 (4oz) can green chilies, drained and chopped

Mix all ingredients together well. Form into 3/4″ balls. Place 1″ apart on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake @ 375 degrees for 12 – 15 minutes turning over once halfway through baking.

cheddar cheese block – $3.98
tub butter – $2.38
all purpose flour – $1.25
chilies ā€“ $1.19/can
Total – $3.25

  1. I have never had anything like this before. Sounds good though.

  2. Thought about your blog after we made dinner last night, because the wife and I had bean and rice burritos that were filling, flavorful, and cost us about $4 to make for two of us. We just used the black beans recipe from Plain Chicken this week, rice, cheese and the wrap and I couldn’t believe how good it was.

This chili cheese ball is always a target of mine at parties as long as it hasn’t been violated too much. Once it’s half gone, I don’t know who has touched it with what, so I like to get mine early:)
